Which version is the current one? Which version was sent three weeks ago to the client? Which is the one we are currently working on? Which parts and teams belong to this project? The PDM system provides answers to all these questions. It clearly documents the project’s history, including all versions. It guarantees that the current version is clearly identifiable. The probability of inadvertently working on an outdated or incorrect version is minimal.

In an assembly, a part needs to be changed. What consequences will the change have? Has the part also been used in other assemblies? Autodesk Vault answers such questions quickly. With just one button, you can answer them smoothly and efficiently. The system shows clear usage information in the form of part and assembly relationships, based on which you can decide whether a change makes sense and will cause potential problems elsewhere. This knowledge allows you to avoid serious problems and thus save money.

If you need to locate a CAD or Office document in Vault and view its contents quickly, there is no need to open AutoCAD, Inventor, or Word. Choose the file, access the Lookup tab, and review its details.

How many current drawings do you have? 5.000? 10.000? 50.000? With so many drawings, designers spend significant time searching for relevant ones before starting a design or locating components and assemblies. The PDM system simplifies the search and pinpoints all files belonging to a project. Through various methods, such as saving search criteria or links, organizing product data is more manageable, and searching is faster. More efficient searching leads directly to existing parts and assemblies being used more often, with savings of nearly 100 percent in labor and a large portion of production costs.

How many times, after renaming a file from the operating system, did you have to point to the renamed files after opening the assembly in Autodesk Inventor? With Autodesk Vault, the situation won’t happen again. When you rename files using Autodesk Vault, the system automatically updates all related references, links, and iProperties.

Identical to renaming files, when moving files between directories in Vault, the system updates all the links between files. This way, you will no longer need to indicate the new file location when opening assemblies or related files.

Need to change a value in iProperties or properties of multiple files at once? You can do it with Designer’s Helper; however, it is faster and simpler to do it with Autodesk Vault, as you can copy cell contents by dragging in a table, just like in Microsoft Excel.

Most of the costs associated with the product are established at the design stage, making the PDM system particularly useful. Thanks to PDM, you can reuse existing parts more frequently and efficiently handle parts that need only minor modifications, leading to significant cost savings.

The Vault system prevents unintentional overwriting of data. The system saves all project data in one centralized collection. Only people identified by the system and granted appropriate permissions to access specific resources are allowed access to the data. The system also gathers information on who has modified particular data. In problematic cases, the question of responsibility is easy to determine. The system also stipulates that colleagues from other departments, such as production or purchasing, can access only finalized data. They will not have access to data that is still under development.

Autodesk Vault transparently informs the user if a file has changed after modifications to the parent files it depends on.

Using the attachment function, we can link files that were initially separate. By linking these files, we eliminate the need to search for related items, such as a CNC program for a specific component.
