New Interface and Information Layout
The most noticeable change is the **modernized user interface** of the Spec Editor. The window layout has been optimized for easier browsing and editing of component properties:
- Property categorization: Split into Part Family Properties and Part Size Properties – shared attributes for a part family and size-specific parameters.
- Port editing: Modify connection port attributes individually or all at once.
- Catalog data protection: Size parameters can now only be edited in the Catalog tab.
- Save Spec button: Quickly save directly from the main interface.
These changes make the Spec Editor more intuitive and improve productivity.
Copy & Paste Between Specifications
You can now **copy components between specifications**, making spec creation and editing faster:
- Keyboard shortcuts: Use Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste into a different spec.
- File menu options: Copy and Paste commands are now available in the File menu.
- Right-click context menu: Offers quick copy-paste functionality.
**Example use case:** Easily create a new specification based on an existing one — e.g., duplicate a “150# Carbon Steel Piping” spec and change the flange class to 300#.
Component Size Management
Managing available sizes in the spec and catalog has been improved:
- Spec Property Editor – Manage Sizes: Enable or disable available sizes with checkboxes.
- Catalog Property Editor: Add new sizes, copy existing ones, and edit size parameters all in one place.
These tools make it faster to add uncommon sizes or modify existing components.
Improved Catalog Browser
The catalog browser has been redesigned for better usability:
- Expander: Collapse the catalog panel to free up workspace.
- Component-by-size view: Browse each pipe diameter as a separate item.
- Customizable columns: Choose which properties to display and in what order.
- Search and filters: Real-time search with filters, remembering settings per catalog.
These improvements make browsing and editing the catalog easier and faster.
Other Spec Editor Enhancements
In addition to major updates, several smaller improvements boost usability:
- Dropdown lists for selected properties help prevent typos.
- Window layout settings persist between sessions.
- “Remove from Spec” option in the context menu for quick deletions.
- Export specs to catalog – useful for building company-specific libraries.
- Drag & Drop – easily add components from the catalog to your spec.
These changes significantly improve the ergonomics of the Spec Editor.
